One of her close friends, Claire MacRae wrote on Facebook, “Depression and suicidal ideation are like a precipice. The smallest breath of wind can tip you one way or the other. Dear Sophie was not so lucky.”
She added, “Sophie, I am so so sorry that we couldn’t help you to find your light again. If you are ever struggling. If you feel that no one notices, no one would care if you were gone… please know that people DO care.”
Similarly, Putland’s cousin, Hugh Atkinson, also spoke about the situation. He wrote, “You struggled with your mental health, but you really tried to manage it. We spoke about this often, including the last time I saw you.”
Hugh also stated, “We didn’t know the magnitude of your despair. In the end, you just wanted the pain to be over… and I understand that.”
From the words, we can only conclude that Sophie died from potential suicide. However, the full reports are still on the way.
