Old Crow Medicine Show is a Nashville, Tennessee-based Americana string band. Old-time, bluegrass, folk, and alt-country have all been used to describe their sound. The band performs a variety of pre-World War II blues and folk songs in addition to original songs. They began recording in 1998 and were discovered by Doc Watson, a well-known bluegrass musician, while busking outside a pharmacy in Boone, North Carolina in 2000. They’ve influenced acts like Mumford & Sons and contributed to a revival of banjo-picking string bands playing Americana music, leading to variations on it, with an old-time string sound fueled by punk rock energy. O.C.M.S. (2004), Big Iron World (2006), Tennessee Pusher (2008), Carry Me Back (2012), and Remedy (2013) are the band’s studio albums (2014). Their song “Wagon Wheel,” co-written with Bob Dylan and written by frontman Ketch Secor, was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America in April 2013 and has been covered by a number of artists, including Darius Rucker, who made the song a top 40 hit.
